Dairy
When bedding with reclaimed solids, either sand or fiber, bacteria develop and grow causing unfavorable conditions in the bedding material. Our solution is easily applied at time of separation or during rebedding the stalls. Mixed at a low PPM dosage, our solution remains 100% active for 21 days. By forcing oxygen slowly and long term into bacteria in bedding, we are able to drastically reduce clinical mastitis cases.
Dairy Bedding
When bedding with reclaimed sand or fiber, bacteria develop and grow causing unfavorable conditions in the bedding material. Cow spend a lot of time laying down, so it only make sense to remove as much bacteria in that material as possible. We have successfully integrated into existing separation systems and the farms have gotten tremendous results in both mastitis cases and drops in SCC numbers.
Bio-bed treatment after your separation equipment has been installed is fast and easy. In this application, we are running a metering pump directly into the sand cannon final rinse that was already in place. This install took less than 2 hours and is treating two separate farms, one for sand bedding and a second that beds with fiber. Other application methods are spraying the sand after it has been placed in the stalls.
Case Study - Central PA uncontrollable mastitis
We were approached by a farm that had a multiple month long uncontrollable mastitis outbreak. Out of roughly 2,000 cows, 130 were in the sick pen. Of those 130, many were untreatable and were sold off due to the persistent mastitis. After collecting basic farm and separation system information we were able to determine dosage and design a system to integrate into their current separation system. Within 3 months we reduced that number to 60 cows, and after 5 months the mastitis infections were in the teens. Not only did mastitis drop, but SCC also followed an downward trend.
The result- significant savings from the removal of cows from the sick pen. Drastic reduction of overhead and supplies treating those cows, and a kicker due to lower SCC. This example created roughly 6:1 payback for this farm.
